I think crystal did make Legend and Anniversary well but sucked on Underworld, it was just all over the place. To tell you the truth the game that got me into tomb raider was AOD!! Never mind the clunky controls and story holes. It just felt like a solid complete game, I wanna see where they are going with this whole survivor thing though! And Pre rendered cutscenes are the way to go not FMVs, they still use the game engine but they can add better filters and effects smile.gif

I feel like Crystal made Anniversary the worst. I mean, c'mon. LOOK at it. Yano? Lara is always staring at her hands for some reason, she cries way too much when someone dies, and she makes a big deal about daddy. Natla was mindnumbingly stupid, and I just all together hated that game. Everyone was saying, "That's not who you are." or "That's who you are." And it was honestly the stupidest game I have ever played in my entire life, and I will never beat that game again. I can beat Core's games over and over, but I can NOT re-beat anything Crystal comes up with. I mean, I find Crystal games so mindnumbingly stupid. I can't sit through one.

There's not enough stuff to collect in crystals games, but at the end of AOD there was tons of stuff you couldnt even use cause they cut the game short. They need to put much more thought into their new tomb raider, look at naughty dog with uncharted! People say it is too short so (uncharted had only 140 enviorments) now the 2nd has 400!! And 90 minutes more cinematic story line!! Pull the finger out crystal!!

Is that an ancient tibetan ritual dagger in your pocket?.. Maybe I'm just pleased to see you...

I think Crystal has been in the Tomb Raider universe for way too long. 3 or 4 years... Waaaay too long. They have ruined the game for me completely. I am glad that their games aren't long, because I wouldn't be able to stand the stupidity for that long. I swear to God if I ever see Lara stare at her hands when something weird happens again, I'm going to throw up.

I agree completely that the staring at the hands thing was an awful idea. But anniversary is my fave game by crystal, because of the reason that is was longer than legend and Underworld. However, all the levels on TRA don't compare with TRI one bit - apart from: Palace Midas and Lost Valley. Crystal murdered St. Francis folly though.

Now I, too, can change my poll answer to 'Yes'! I was FINALLY able to buy the game and it was waiting for me to come home today♥ Let the adventure begin.

Anniversary is the only game from Crystal that I have played. I have watched (skimmed) Legend and Underworld on Youtube, and don't care to buy either of them. They do NOT compare to the originals from what I saw anyway. I think that the Folly level in Anniversary is better than the original, but overall, the original is better.

Wow, that's really interesting to read. Your assumptions (imo!) are correct. They were fun to play but nothing at all like the originals.

True, they don't have the same feeling as back in the day! Maybe advanced technology isn't always a good thing... :) Plus, they did make some changes to the storyline for the new games too, right?

PS. I just saw a close-up picture of a giant spider in TRU. Now why do I get the feeling I may never finish this game? Hrr.

You have not answered my question in my TR3 thread. How did you finish that game with the spider near the end?

Oh sorry, I haven't noticed the question! I was pretty shocked when I first saw what I was up against, but he had a human face, so it wasn't all that bad! I do hate their legs (too many of them, lol), but the face is just.. indescribably.. horrible.. Can't deal with it!

Even after all this time, I haven't been able to play. Xbox 360 ruined my disc and my computer graphic card is in need of a replacement.

Someday though. For a Crystal game, I enjoyed what I played (which was about half ), although bringing Natla back is kind of a rip-off.

^I agree there. I wasn't so thrilled when Natla appeared! IMO after replaying Underworld I agree that it is the best Tomb Raider game made by Crystal Dynamics. Plus, Coastal Thailand put in extra bonus points of interest for me  I've always wanted Lara to have an adventure it Thailand

Have you looked on eBay? There's always super cheap copies of games. Or your local game store might sell used copies.

Underworld was by far better than Legend. I agree 100% with you - bringing Natla back, imo, showed a lack of creativity. Hire a writer!

^Totally agree there Katie! After Legend I was looking forward to a new villain. I knew Amanda would come back, and I thought it would be cool if she had a cunning and creative sidekick. Hence the disappointment when I watched the first gameplay trailer, and Natla was obviously Amanda's sidekick, which disappointed me. I would have loved to have a mysterious new villain in the game. Not that Natla isn't mysterious, I just got tired of Natla being in a quarter of the series (It felt like the whole series when she returned in Underworld  ) I was pretty disappointed with the lack of creativity. Ah well, there's always fan fiction for me to replace Natla with another awesome villain

You're right, eBay usually do have some good deals. I'll try both. Thanks, Katie.

Glad to see I'm not the only one alone in thinking Natla was a un-inspired comeback. Not wanting to cause offence here either, but on the debate video Katie posted, I noticed how she mentioned that it was implied Crystal seemed to have disdain for Core's bio and background for Lara. I just love how they say that and then go and take a load of stuff from them (Natla being one, Zip being another...).

^Totally agree there. I think the only thing that Crystal didn't take from Core was the mansion ^.^ I was kinda sad they they copied and pasted the mansion from the movies onto the game. I'm sure I'm not the only one! I was disappointed that there was no assault course or quad bike/veichle course, but the maze in Anniversary kept me occupied. I was starting to like the house from then on, and then they go and burn it down in Underworld lol

Exactly my thoughts! I've gotten a few grunts about the "sarcasm" when talking about it in that video but it's there in black and white in the manual. When I was researching points for the debate I re-read the bio and realized I had completely missed their not-so-hidden comment first time round. Criticize and put down, but then re-use certain elements/characters?

The mansion was one thing that really peeved me, and I gotta admit, was happy when they burned it down :P
