Well, let me tell you that the first version I owned was the Ps3 version. But I have no longer the PS3 and I wanted my TR collection complete, so I bought the PS2 version and I fairly enjoyed.

It is a good game, but Buzz Monkey did a mediocre job on this one.
In some levels, they remain that HUGE levels (without any loading times), but with lesser polygons and textures - the problem is that a PS2 is not a PS3! Buzz Monkey should had make a new level design from scratch to optimize the PS2, but faithfull with the original version.

In the other hand, the Mexico level is 90% diferent from the original and is the best level of the game - they should do that to the rest of the game, I don't understand...

There is a number of exclusive features I did enjoyed, but others have not.

Features I did enjoyed:
- Mexico level (amazing)
- You are limited to 2 weapons
- You can only choose outfits when you beat the game (yes, I did enjoyed because is like a reward to me)
- Motocycle with machine-gun (just like TR2)
- Exclusive sections in Croft Manor and JAN MAYEN ISLAND
- Camera system (a lot better from the original version)
- Exploration and levers (I have a deja-vu, it seemed that I was playing the classics)

Features I did not enjoyed:
- Unlimited ammunition :o
- No flashlight
- No camera
- Less enemies
- No medipacks (Lara heals herself  )
- Treasure hunt is useless (when you beat the game everything is unlocked)
- Simplified puzzles
- Huge scenarios (PS2 can't process that, PS2 is not a PS3!)

My question is:
What do you think of this version?

I have never played the PS2 version personally, but from seeing screenshots and videos of it, I can say that it is the worst looking Tomb Raider PS2 title, as by the looks of things the colours are washed out, poor textures and Lara's facial animations are not as fluid, also if you look closely her eyes do not move during cutscenes. After Anniversary looks amazing and pushed the PS2 quite far, it's hard to believe that Eidos would even consider releasing it in that state. But some of the levels being different (some by the looks seem BETTER than the PS3, 360 and PC versions) in terms of layout.

Is that an ancient tibetan ritual dagger in your pocket?.. Maybe I'm just pleased to see you...

I could go into a long answer for this but seeing as how I never actually completed Underworld (that and it's late here) I'll keep it short ...

It should never have been ported to the Playstation 2. Tomb Raider - Underworld is NOT a Playstation 2 game.

I agree with Kurtis6 that the Mexico level was truly incredible (I actually enjoyed it more than the next gen version of Mexico). There were some cool features but apart from that I found this version disappointing. It was just too easy and there was no effort at all put into the textures. The cutscenes are terrible. Apart from the Mexico level, I just can't believe Eidos realised Underworld on PS2. I was excited when it came out, because I did not have a next gen console or a computer with the rich graphics card, but I passed it and was left bitterly disappointed.... and then played Mexico again to lighten it up.
I actually prefer the weapon system in the PS2 version, but I did not like that the all weapons had unlimited amo. It just made me charge through levels too quickly.

a positive reaction? is this a joke? this port was an utter disaster! not mediocre, chronicles is mediocre this port was a total failure an embarrassment to the series! i mean where to begin with its flaws? the combat system was joke of rolling and shooting wildly like in tr1, the camera work is god awful and leads to countless accidental deaths, the controls are broken, they are dozens of annoying bugs, the graphics are dull dark and blurry and that's just the technical flaws. on top of all that the game has very little combat with UNLIMITED ammo, no challenging puzzles or challenge of any kind, not to mention 45% of the game is just walking through boring hallways.

there is almost nothing redeeming or worthwhile about the game, it is just completely devoid of all fun or amusement. it deserves a 2/10 at the absolute highest i think.
I wish this would happen in real life :-]

rule I live by:if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing

Comparing the camera system of PS2 and PS3. The PS2 version is A LOT BETTER.

To me TRU (ps2)deserves 5/10.
