from what i read about this upcoming game it seems CD has focused all its attention on the survival aspect of this and they haven't released one morsel of info on how this TOMB raider game is going to involve tombs. i mean look at the story space on Wikipedia
"Fresh from academy and in search of lost relics, a 21-year-old Lara Croft journeys to an island off the coast of Japan aboard the Endurance, a salvage vessel helmed by Captain Conrad Roth. Before anchoring at bay, the ship is cleaved in two by an unforeseen storm leaving Lara separated from any other survivors and washed ashore. She must endure physical and emotional torture in order to survive the island."
the fact that she's in search of lost relics is the only thing that makes this a game about archaeology. I guess the survival part of the game mixes things up but that should take a back seat to Tomb Raiding, if i wanted a survival game id play Cabela's or silent hill or something like that. it just makes me wonder how that will be integrated into the game, will she explore the tomb in between finding food and stuff or will the tomb be somehow apart of the survival? it just confuses me how CD hasn't even thought about this yet

In the caves there's a statue and a lot of human skeletons, sacrifices in some kind of temple perhaps? And it looks like what we've been shown so far is from the beginning of the game, so hopefully a lot of the survival stuff is at the start. We've also been told that Lara will be able to visit other areas of the island so there may be tombs/temples in some of these areas that we haven't seen yet. I hope this is the case anyway, I don't want CD to mess up another one either.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it will be a disaster, i mean they're putting a lot of work into this one, but i just know from the reputation CD has that it will have problems, to varying degrees they always make their games short, somewhat boring, and full of bugs simply because they're lazy and they cut corners.

I'm staying optimistic, looks as though it has the same production values of the Uncharted games and they are always highly received.
Maybe they are putting more effort in to this one as they have a clean slate and probably a lot of pressure from Square Enix to make this one a winner.
Only time will tell!

I definitely hear what you're saying - based on what they've told us, it does sound like it will mostly be about survival. However, they have only released a little bit about the game - we know nothing about AFTER she gets out of the cave at the beginning so who knows what's next?
I'm hoping it will have a mix because Tomb Raider has always been about exploring, action, puzzle solving. If they only have survival, it will flop...but I'm thinking there will be more to it. Yes she's just starting out, but that doesn't mean she can't tackle anything else.
IMO I hope they get through these Lara growing pains and get back to the Tomb Raiding. I'd be more excited about part 2 I think.
