Recently, GK Films' Graham King announced that the new Tomb Raider movie will send Lara on a "search for her parents". You can watch the video here: http://officialtombr...lms-graham-king

This incites some response from people like me who are pretty tired of the "need to find my parents" story. This is something we've seen in Legend, Underworld and the first Tomb Raider movie with Angelina Jolie. It's overused. I believe Lara is about adventure and treasure-hunting. Why is she searching for her mum when there are thousands of exotic locations around the world to be exploring?

There aren't any big details on the plot yet, so this might not be the centerpiece of the story (I hope not!), but one thing I do hope GK gets right is consistency with the franchise's new reboot. In Katie's debate video on her Youtube channel we debated consistency in Lara's biography.

When Crystal took over, I think one of the most drastic changes they made was changing Lara's story. Once you do that, it's done, you can't pretend like those three games that altered so much from the original CORE biography don't exist. Crystal is currently taking a great step forward, though. It seems they are putting plenty of time into crafting a true reboot - a completely new direction for Lara, leaving everything else behind. If GK films' origin story is not the same as Crystal's game, do you think that will look good for the franchise?

I'm interested in hearing what you guys think about GK's Tomb Raider plot, and consistency between Crystal and the new film.

Hmm there isn't much info but so far I don't like this idea.
Angelina could have done another sequel. But other than that, a new Lara is fine.. But stop the reboot hype please.

The Tomb Raider movies should (in my opinion) be more like the James Bond movies over the years.
They aren't exactly sequels but they aren't reboots either. Well ok, since Casino Royale even 007 has had a reboot.
But for like 20 Bond movies they went along with their own time, and were movies of their own.
Bond didn't need a reboot. And Lara doesn't need a reboot either.. Especially not after only 2 movies!
I'm just tired of this "going back to the beginning" with all franchises nowadays.

I know what you mean. A good few franchises are being rebooted nowadays. In Katie's debate, I argued that there was a lot of inconsistency in the franchise now that we have to go back for a third or fourth origins story again. I don't agree, however, with your thoughts on having different storylines running across different mediums - ie, movies and games. I think that the story in the game should be the main story, because the game is the heart of the franchise. THe movies should run with the story, as well as any books that would come out. I think nowadays, people are more critical of brands because there's so much inconsistency and so much to keep track of. So I think/hope/pray that GK Films keeps the game's story, whatever that may be, in the upcoming game.

Hm I dunno. The games themselves each have different stories.. So why shouldn't the movies do the same?
The heart of the story is mostly there.. Like the Tomb Raider series are basicly seperate stories but Lara makes it a Tomb Raider game. As long as she is Tomb raiding ^^
Only thing I don't like is that the continuïty just ends there and the producer is like "hey I got a better idea, lets start it all over again".
I'm not against reboots, but I dislike it when the previous one doesn't get a decent ending and they rush to a new one.
In the Case of a new Tomb Raider movie IMO it is not needed since both movies can be seen seperate from each other.. there's no continuïty BUT they are in the same universe.
They can continue doïng that just like 007 did for about 20 movies.

I REALLY HOPE That Angelina Jolie will still be in the new Tomb Raider. Or someone who resembles her NOT Megan Fox Or Kim Kardashian.
